Dubai is already known as one of the most forward-thinking cities in the world, especially when it comes to the tech used by its police force. At the latest Gitex tech conference, Dubai Police announced the introduction of hoverbikes for its officers, making for some Star Wars-esque scenarios.
Developed by Russian drone company Hoversurf, the Scorpion is an electric powered, one-man hoverbike that can reach speeds of 70kmph. The hoverbike can also fly unmanned but their primary use will be to carry officers over crowded streets or congested traffic to reach emergency situations more effectively.
Flight times are around 25 minutes, carrying a maximum of 300g in weight – so if an officer does catch a criminal, unfortunately they can’t be carried along with them. The hoverbike is just another addition to Dubai Police’s already tech-infuelled force, with recent rumours of the introduction of an electric motorbike laden with smart tech including multiple cameras and biometric software to spot criminals on-the-go.
Would you like to see your local police more equipped with technology to help them on the ground, or even in the air?
